2 people are dead in North Hollywood after stabbing and police shooting
Two people have died after a stabbing and police shooting outside a North Hollywood home Friday afternoon.
The shooting happened just before 1 p.m. on Beck Avenue, several blocks from Strathern Street, LAPD said. Officers were initially responding to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon.
Police say that upon arrival to the multi-unit property they were directed by witnesses to a pathway between the units, where the suspect, 23-year-old Jose Gonzalez Ramos, had allegedly stabbed his wife multiple time.
"There, they encountered Ramos, who was advancing towards the officers with a knife raised in his right hand, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting ... and the deployment of a 40mm less lethal launcher," LAPD said in a statement on Saturday. "Ramos was struck by gunfire and fell to the ground, where he was taken into custody."
Ramos died after being taken to a nearby hospital.
They continued to search the area, where they found a woman suffering from stab wounds, police said. She was taken to the hospital, where she later died. Authorities have not yet identified her.
Investigators say they recovered a knife from next to where Ramos fell.
No officers were injured, police said.
